After years waiting for open-world pixelated mayhem, North American gamers will be able to go on a Retro City Rampage come October 9. Joystiq received word from developer VBlank last night that the downloadable game will go live on PC, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita on Tuesday.
The $15 game is planned for release on WiiWare and Xbox Live Arcade later this year, and the PC version will be available DRM-free from VBlank’s website as well as on Steam and Good Old Games.
The 8-bit exalting Retro City Rampage (which takes inspiration from the isometric Grand Theft Auto as well as Contra, Bionic Commando, Paperboy, and Metal Gear) has a development log stretching back to July 2010. Fortunately for VBlank, the long-in-coming indie game has managed to maintain buzz thanks in no small part to trailers like the one below.
