Admission review

High-strung college admissions officer Portia (Tina Fey) discovers her mid-life mojo when she bumps into ex-classmate John (Paul Rudd), a free spirit in charge of an ‘alternative’ high school who attempts to convince her that one of his students – who might just be Portia’s estranged son – is Princeton material.

These truly are dark and terrible times if we are forced to accept the elitist problems of an Ivy League college admissions officer as shameless fodder for a romcom.

Then again, Paul Weitz’s ( About A Boy , American Pie ) movie spends far more time shipwrecking the talents of its two stars than it does offering us either romance or comedy, so maybe it’s actually just a drama with a really confusing poster.
