Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection cant fit MGS4 on Xbox 360

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection is coming exclusively to PlayStation 3. Solid Snake and Sony were best friends for a while, but the HD Collection finally brought Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and Peace Walker to Xbox 360. Why couldn’t Konami do it again with this comprehensive package?

“I’m sorry to say an Xbox 360 version isn’t being released, because an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 hasn’t gone on sale,” Kojima said on his podcast (via Kotaku). “To explain the situation, the amount of data in MGS4 is just too enormous.”

All the high-resolution assets, voice acting, and–of course–the bizarre assortment of videos advertising MGS4’s PMC groups were crammed onto one dual-layer Blu-ray disc. But that would fill up seven DVDs.

Imagine it: you’re not even done settling back into the couch before Otacon calls in again, whining at you to swap discs again, and he’s not even joking this time. War has changed.

Kojima said he wants to put The Legacy Collection on Xbox 360, but it just can’t happen. Xbox Snake charmers will just have to wait and hope for the next generation.

“When it’s the next [Xbox] console, maybe we can release it,” Kojima said. “If we released a version on the Xbox 360 without MGS4, then it’s not The Legacy Collection.”
