In issue 210 of Total Film magazine – the ultimate comic-book movie preview – we have a ton of exclusives including Joss Whedon on Avengers: Age Of Ultron , on-set with The Amazing Spider-Man , and full coverage of Comic-Con 2013.
But it’s not just comic-book movies that you’ll find in the issue, though. Take Filth , for example. We’ve got full access to the Irvine Welsh adaptation that shows off James McAvoy in a whole new light.
As twisted, none-more dirty copper Bruce Robertson, McAvoy’s performance is set to be one of the most talked about of the year.
You can read the full feature inside the issue (available for just £1.99 on your iPad (opens in new tab) ), but for now, here’s a sneak peek at what McAvoy had to say about the intoxicatingly dark movie.
He told us that the ‘mystery’ behind the character’s behaviour is what keeps the audience watching, in horror: “You [ as a viewer ] don’t want to be here and you should probably leave the cinema. And you shouldn’t laugh and you shouldn’t fucking like it. But why are you still here? And why are you repelled and compelled at the same time? And why are you excited and disgusted at the same time? And why did you just fucking laugh?”
It’s a trait that shouldn’t be underestimated. “As emotional, as dark, as harrowing as it is, it’s also very funny,” he told us.
Filth opens in the UK on 4 October 2013. For much more from McAvoy, writer-director Jon S. Baird and Irvine Welsh, pick up pick up the brand-new issue 210 of Total Film magazine, which is out now!
