PS Vita TV brings portable gaming to your television

Sony has revealed PlayStation Vita TV, a new device which lets users enjoy portable gaming and media experiences on their television.

Measuring 6.5cm by 10.5cm, the system adopts the Vita chip sets and system software to let users play over 1,300 Vita, PSP and PSOne classics on TV using a DualShock 3 controller. Since the controller isn’t equipped with Vita features like a touch screen, rear touch pad, camera, electronic compass and microphone, not all Vita titles will be playable on PS Vita TV.

Vita entertainment offerings including movies and eBooks will also be viewable on TV. Additionally, the device allows users to Remote Play PS4 games on TV using a DualShock 4.

Vita TV is due to launch first in Japan on November 14 priced at 9,480 yen (£61 / $95), or 9,954 yen (£64 / $100) with tax. A worldwide release will follow at a later date.

Sony also revealed a redesigned Vita model today. Set for release in Japan on October 10, the Wi-Fi system is 20 per cent thinner and 20 per cent lighter than the existing Vita, It also offers one extra hour of battery life and will come in six different colours, priced at 18,980 yen (£122 / $190), or 19,929 yen (£128 / $200 USD) with tax.
