Peter Molyneux says Wii U is good, but its not great

Peter Molyneux is a fan of fresh thinking. His game ideas may not always pan out, he can’t be faulted for lack of creativity. With that creative focus in mind, the Wii U may seem right up his alley.Molyneux told GamesIndustry International he does enjoy the system, but it has to be better to compete with all the other new ways people can play.

“It’s good, but it’s not great,” Molyneux said. “And we really need these new pieces of hardware to be great in today’s world, because the competition is not just consoles anymore. The competition is everything, all the technology. When you’re holding a Kindle Fire or an iPad in your hand, it’s just amazing technology. It really is. It’s expensive, but it’s amazing technology. And people like Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft need to match that. They need to match that in my mind, and exceed it. And I’m not sure the Wii U really did that.”

Molyneux said he tried and enjoyed Nintendo Land and ZombiU, but he found going back and forth from the GamePad’s screen to the television slightly confusing. He still has “unbelievable respect for Nintendo,” he said, and remembered how the Wii was widely ridiculed before bringing in millions of people from outside gaming’s established market.

Meanwhile, his studio 22Cans continues its Kickstarter campaign for Populous successor Godus, which stands at £175,970 pledged out of its £450,000 goal and 21 days to go as of this writing.
