Shigeru Miyamoto has said that a new Super Mario game for the Wii U will be debuted at this year’s E3. Speaking to Spain’s El Mundo (opens in new tab) (via Eurogamer (opens in new tab)), Miyamoto confirmed suspicions that this year’s show would see a return for Nintendo’s #1 property, this one bound for the Wii U and said to show off the console’s unique control features.

El Mundo reports that Miyamoto “smiled during all the interview – even when he wants to change the topic because ‘it’s not the moment’ to talk about Wii U.” Yep, that sounds like our guy, then. The designer was visiting Paris to show an inventive new collaboration between Nintendo and the Louvre – but if Shigeru Miyamoto were to stop the conversation whenever anyone mentioned Mario, he’d never get to talk to anyone. This month saw the Super Mario 4 domain nabbed by Nintendo (opens in new tab), implying extra-canonical shenanigans for the ubiquitous mascot in the near future.
