Expect more Batman games: “The possibilities are endless”

Been getting all sad about the end of Rocksteady’s Batman? Broody even? Well, don’t worry, Warner Bros has your armoured back on this one. Talking to the PlayStation Blog (opens in new tab), Ames Kirshen, vice president of product development for the Arkham and DC Comics games, is reassuring when it comes to the future of Caped Crusader.

“Batman is one of the cornerstone IPs for Warner Bros,” he says. “With the Arkham series, we were finally able to realise the full potential of the character.” Cornerstone has a nice ring to it and that definitely sounds like his broodiness isn’t going anywhere. Don’t forget he’s still hurtling around in stud form in Lego Dimensions (opens in new tab). “We don’t have anything to talk about at this time,” says Kirshen when it comes to the question of more games. “But the possibilities are endless with a character as dynamic and beloved as Batman.”

Plus, when it comes to more DC heroes, Kirshen isn’t averse to bringing them into the world of games if the dev team is right. “When choosing what DC Entertainment IP we might focus on for any game, it boils down to honing in on the IPs that map the strongest, genre-wise, to what fans are interested in seeing and playing,” he explains. “From there, it’s about getting the development studios with the strongest passion for those IPs to make the games.” Right, we just need to find someone who’s really into Batgirl. Any takers?
