GoldenEye 007: Reloaded officially announced for PS3/360 as another Wii game goes HD

Bond has never been as good on consoles as he was in GoldenEye for N64, and game makers have been chasing that dragon for years, even releasing some reboot/sequels to the film along the way. Activision gave it the old college try last year with GoldenEye 007 on the Wii (it wasn’t bad (opens in new tab)), and today we found out the rumors (opens in new tab) of GoldenEye getting a new lease on life were very true. Activision today officially announced GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, an HD redo of last year’s Wii release.

Just like the Wii game, the story recasts current Bond Daniel Craig as the lead in the role once played by Pierce Brosnan as he tries to save the world from his former superior. Additional single-player action will include, according to the press release, “the brand new ‘Mi6 Ops Missions’ – new, distinct levels separate from the campaign that span the varied environments from the story and challenge players to complete different Assault, Elimination, Stealth and Defense objectives.” And if you want to pretend it’s a still a Wii game, PS3 owners can use Move should you for some reason own a Move.

Of course the real draw should be the multiplayer, as that’s what kept players on their N64’s long after the system died a public death. Not only will the game have split-screen four player battles (a necessity on Wii and a cute quirk on PS3/360), now you can take it online with up to 16 players, double the eight player limit on Wii. For developer Eurocom it must feel like heavy shackles have finally been removed now that they can work on current gen systems.

Planned for release this fall, these early shots look good, at least a step up from a quick port job meant for PSN/XBLA. Will the beefed up options and graphics get you to try this game you may have skipped on Wii last year? And if you’re a Nintendo/Bond diehard that played it last year, are the improvements enough to get you to play it again?
