The mysterious countdown clock that had been ticking away on theofficial website (opens in new tab)for Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition reached its inevitable conclusion today and revealed the official release date for the controversial, yet highly anticipatedRPG remake (opens in new tab).
According to the site, we’ll be seeing BG: EE launch a bit later than original stated (Summer 2012) on September 18, 2012, though no reason was given for the slight delay.
Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition is a remaster of the original game in the series developed by Bioware along with its first expansion pack, Tales of the Sword Coast. However, this wont simply be an update. While the vast majority of the content will be simply upgraded, there will be some differences in both the PC and iPad versions like online multiplayer, new abilities, and DLC.
The iPad version has been described as a “radical departure” in terms of gameplay as it will allow players to swipe the screen to perform abilities rather than click tabs.
The second game in the series (and it’s first expansion) are also scheduled to get the remaster treatment in 2013.
