Arrested Development gets new movie and TV show

Fans of Arrested Development received two great pieces of news today: the long-discussed movie is happening and it will follow on from new TV episodes of the cult show!

Creator Mitchell Hurwitz says the TV show could film next summer and focus on the main characters’ lives over the past five years.

While there’s no shooting schedule yet for the movie, Hurwitz added that the “creative aspects” are in place and negotiations will hammer out “the business side”.

“We’re all game,” he told The New Yorker Fest. “We’ve hated being coy, but we’ve been trying to put together this ambitious idea.”

“I’m peeing with @batemanjason at the moment..and we can confirm that we are going to make new AD eps and a movie,” Will Arnett said on Twitter following Hurwitz’s announcement.

“It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early ’13. VERY excited!” added Jason Bateman.

The Fox show also starred Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Jeffrey Tambor, David Cross and Jessica Walter, with guest starring roles for Henry Winkler, Liza Minnelli and Charlize Theron.

It went off the air after three seasons in 2006.
