A follow-up to 2011’s Mortal Kombat is in development, according to producer Lance Sloane. Sloane offhandedly mentioned a new game in the gorey fighter series when speaking with GamerHub about a new Mortal Kombat film.
“We’ve been in greenlight committee for a little while at the studio, and we’ve got a great script, and a great director with Kevin Tancharoen,” Sloane said. “It’s just figuring out the business side of it, and when we would do it, and how do we sync it up with the launch of the game that they’re working on now, the next game. It’s not 100 percent yet, but we’re getting closer every day.”
Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios is still producing DLC for its most recent title, Injustice: Gods Among Us. But studio founder Ed Boon told CVG last year that he would like to wait for the next generation of consoles to arrive before creating another Mortal Kombat.
With both PS4 and Xbox One set to arrive before the end of 2013, kombatants might not have to wait too much longer to test their might.
