Google Play surpasses 25 billion downloads

The Google Play media storefront for Android devices has surpassed 25 billion downloads on its more than 675,000 apps, Google announced today. The company has significantly marked down several paid games and utility apps on Play to mark theoccasion.

According to All Things D, Apple’s App store hit the same milestone in March, and it now boasts a selection of more than 700,000 apps. The neck-and-neck race between the tech titans doesn’t end there, with about 500 million activated Android devices and 400 million iOS devices sold.

Google may hope to add a little fuel to its app buying fire with five planned days of 25 cent prices on mobile gaming favorites, starting off with Angry Birds Space, Asphalt 7, Draw Something, and others.

Google Play is a rebranding of the Android Market, which changed its name in March.
