Dan Aykroyd talks Ghostbusters 3

Poor old Dan Aykroyd. Despite lukewarm responses from the fans and a thoroughly frosty one from Bill Murray, he’s still desperate to bring Ghostbusters 3 to the big screen.

The last we heard concerning the project was Bill Murray expressing his scepticism on Letterman last month. “They just don’t have a really good script,” he said. “It’s hard. Even the second Ghostbusters wasn’t as much fun for me as the first one. It’s hard to make a sequel.”

That said, Murray did add the caveat that, “we’ll try again,” and it seems that Aykroyd is prepared to do just that, with the announcement that a new writing team has come on board to replace Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.

“We’ve got a new writing staff working on it now,” confirmed Aykroyd. “It’s got to be perfect. That’s the whole thing. There’s no point in doing it unless it’s perfect. So that’s what we’re up to now.”

On a positive note, it’s good that Aykroyd has recognised the first script wasn’t up to scratch, and it’s also good that Murray hasn’t totally written off the possibility of his involvement. On the other hand, it sounds as though there’s still a hell of a lot of work to be done before this one ever sees the light of day…
