Blizzard cancels 2012s BlizzCon in favor of actually maybe possibly finishing Diablo III and other games

Blizzard Entertainment today announced it is pushing back the return of BlizzCon to 2013 as a means to clear its schedule for the umpteen other projects on its 2012 plate.

Although this is disappointing news for fans of Blizzard’s fan expo, the studio explained the move will allow developers to focus on releasing Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of The Swarm this year; as well as organizing Blizzard’s international gaming competition in Asia.

Speaking to the latter, Blizzard said the 2012 Battle.net World Championships will star pro gamers from throughout the globe competing in StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship Tournaments for prizes, cash, and fame. Specific dates and venues will be announced at a later date.

Last year’s BlizzCon was one of the most exciting yet. It featured a performance by Foo Fighters, and special announcements for all of Blizzard’s biggest upcoming releases. Relive the experience in our October BlizzCon photo diary.
