According to the latest date stamp on Sega’s official site for Aliens: Colonial Marines, the game has been delayed to an Autumn 2012 release. In a statement to CVG, Gearbox explained a later-than-anticipated drop date is needed in order to get the game looking and operating at its best, saying, “We don’t want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date.”
Aliens: Colonial Marines takes place in the same universe as their filmic counterparts and abandons players aboard the derelict U.S.S. Sulaco. Spanning multiple iconic locations, the game will see the main protagonist, Winter, and his team of Colonial Marines tracking down Ellen Ripley and her posse following the events of the Aliens film, eventually coming into contact with dome-headed extraterrestrials themselves.
