TORONTO – With Joffrey Lupul out indefinitely because of a broken hand, the Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled center Sam Carrick from their American Hockey League affiliate.
Carrick could make his NHL debut Saturday night against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The 22-year-old fifth-round pick in the 2010 draft had an impressive training camp before being assigned to the minors.
Lupul, who was injured in Thursday’s practice, missed Friday night’s victory at the Columbus Blue Jackets. General manager Dave Nonis said the winger could be out for a while.
In addition to recalling Carrick, the Leafs sent Stuart Percy back to the Toronto Marlies after he was scratched as the seventh defenseman in Columbus.
