The Witcher is getting a movie – but who should play Geralt?

See that handsome, cat-eyed, silver-haired stud right there? You can call him “Geralt of the cinema” soon, because The Witcher is getting a movie adaptation. The Sean Daniel Company, which helped produce The Mummy, has partnered (opens in new tab) with Polish motion picture company Platige to bring the world of Geralt to the big screen in 2017.

Don’t worry about the games spoiling things for you, as the film will be based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels – a source the games also derive their content from. There’s a silver lining there, though. Technically speaking, this movie will not be a video game-to-film adaptation. Hopefully that means it’ll be more Harry Potter, less Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

Polish filmmaker Tomasz Baginski (The Cathedral) will direct, while screenwriter Thania St. John (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Grimm) will pen the script. Baginski already has some experience with the series, having helped create cinematics for the games. No one has yet been announced as Geralt, though we’ve got a few ideas for who should take up the swords …
