Back in 2014, John Wick looked like it would be little more than a forgettable Keanu Reeves action flick. Fast forward two years, and the sequel to the sleeper hit is one of the most anticipated non-comic book movies of 2017 (although, if we’re being honest, Wick is kind of a superhero anyway). We now have an official synopsis (via Collider (opens in new tab)) for Wick’s next adventure, and it gives us a little more info on what Reeves’ boogeyman will be getting up to:
“Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.”
New scenery? Check. Secret bad guy organisation? Check. Deadly killers? Check. In other words, John Wick 2 seems to be following the tried and true bigger is better mantra, which – in addition to presumably exploring more of the world they set up so beautifully in the first film – suits me just fine. I’m really looking forward to finding out more of what Reeves and co have got planned for this one.
Directed by Chad Stahelski and starring Keanu Reeves, Bridget Moynahan, Peter Stormare, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, Common, John Leguizamo, and Ruby Rose, John Wick: Chapter Two is released in UK and US cinemas on February 10, 2017.
