Senran Kagura is an unlikely series. What looks on the surface like the most lascivious sort of anime game hides an involved story beneath its pervy veneer. A fair description: it’s about breasts, ninjas, interpersonal relationships, gender dysmorphia, gender identity, and friendship. Seriously. It’s that dynamic that’s earned the series an international following and multiple sequels.
Ryan Graff, the localization lead at XSEED Games, joined us to talk about localizing Senran Kagura Estival Versus on PlayStation 4 for the west, censorship, gender, representation in games, and much more.
