The Emmy Awards 2015: Game Of Thrones sets record

The Game Of Thrones cast are probably still celebrating after their Emmy wins last night, which saw the series set a new record for a TV show with the most awards won in a single year.

The hit HBO drama won the award for Outstanding Drama Series for the first time (hard to believe, we know!), plus Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Peter Dinklage (again!), and a whole host of other accolades, which saw the show win a record-breaking 12 awards from its 24 nominations. The record was previously held by The West Wing, which won nine awards at the 2000 Emmys.

Game Of Thrones wasn’t the only big winner though, with HBO gaining a total of 43 Emmys from all its shows, and Viola Davis becoming the first woman of colour to win the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
