Fallout 4 definitely wont be on PS3 or Xbox 360

So bad news if you were still hoping for an announcement of Fallout 4 (opens in new tab) on Xbox 360 and PS3, Bethesda community manager Matt Grandstaff has shot those dreams dead on Neogaf (opens in new tab). A release on last gen was one of the many Fallout 4 leaks and rumours (opens in new tab) from last year but the statement from Bethesda is clear; “It is not coming to 360 and PS3, the stuff we’re doing will never work there.”

There was a clear lack of the mention of previous gen consoles on all preorder information and Grandstaff has assured that this was definitely the case. “I apologize, my intention wasn’t to be cryptic,” he says. “On our game websites, we list the platforms the game at the bottom of the page. It’s also called out in our press release. We don’t list platforms if we’re not developing the game for them. As another example, you won’t see PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 listed at the bottom of the product page for Wolfenstein: The Old Blood — that game isn’t going to be on those platforms, either.”

Well, that’s that then. Logically it makes little sense for the series to appear on previous generation. More and more developers are leaving behind the restrictions placed by older consoles and concentrating all efforts on building for the new generation which, as delays have already indicated, takes far longer. Plus, “the stuff we’re doing will never work there” means promising news for the game making the most of significantly more powerful hardware.

Rumours to take with a vault of salt currently guess at a 2015 release date. All eyes on the Sunday’s Bethesda E3 conference.
