The Division drops player trading at launch, might “make an appearance in the future”

Ubi has confirmed that The Division (opens in new tab) has lost its trading feature that would have seen players able to sell items between one another in-game.

Associate creative director Julian Gerighty told GR the feature wouldn’t be in the game at launch, citing the “priority of different features” as the reason behind its removal. “It’s the reality of production. Some features make it, some features don’t,” he explains.

However, while the ability to trade guns with whoever you don’t shoot on sight won’t be a ‘day one’ thing, it’s not dead completely. “It’s something that obviously some people are very passionate about,” says Julian, adding, “it’ll maybe make an appearance in the future.”

It’s not the first time Ubi has cut something that wasn’t working, The Division lost its Companion app back (opens in new tab) at E3 due to balancing issues with its player-controlled drones. It has, however, managed to squeeze in a fully animated crapping dog (opens in new tab) so… you know.
