Dinosaurs will rule the Earth again in Jurassic World sequel

Jurassic World broke several box office records within days of release. This week it’s done one better, knocking The Avengers out of place to become the third highest-grossing movie of all time. Now that the dino reboot has racked up $1.5 billion worldwide, Universal has given the go-ahead for another instalment. That’s right folks, Jurassic World 2 is officially on the way.

Returning to fend off more genetically-engineered beasts are Chris Pratt, who played Raptor whisperer Owen Grady, and Bryce Dallas Howard as park manager Claire Dearing. Both managed to survive the I-Rex’s trail of destruction on Isla Nublar in Jurassic World, with the latter demonstrating a particular set of skills that include running from a T-Rex in stilettos. And not getting eaten, or even falling over a bit.

Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow won’t be back to direct the duo, though he’s made time in his packed schedule (that’s rumored to involve a Star Wars movie) to pen the script with JW co-writer Derek Connolly. Frank Marshall produces, with Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg set to executive produce.

Jurassic World 2 opens on June 22, 2018 in the US.
