Xur, Destiny (opens in new tab)’s weekend trader, rare Lego enthusiast, and leading expert on the wattle and daub technique, is back. This week he’s over in the Reef. He’s starting to prefer it over there, you know. All that gentle synth and cool lighting. Reminds him of the after-parties and chill-out rooms of his youth. And probably not by coincidence. Oh, he could tell you some stories about how the Awoken really awoke. Just look at their eyes!
Anyway, what’s he selling this week? Well…
• Crest of Alpha Lupi (Exotic Titan Chest Armour) – 13 Strange Coins
• Young Ahamkara’s Spine (Exotic Hunter Gauntlets) – 13 Strange Coins
• Heart of the Praxic Fire (Exotic Warlock Chest Armour) – 13 Strange Coins
• Suros Regime (Auto Rifle) – 23 Strange Coins
• Legacy Engram (Primary Weapon engram) – 31 Strange Coins
• Three of Coins – 7 Strange Coins
• Glass Needle – 3 Strange Coins
First things first. If you’re a Sunsinging Warlock and still need me to explain to you why Heart of the Praxic Fire is one of the best pieces of Exotic armour in the game, then you’re either, a) new to Destiny – in which case welcome to the party. Leave your shoes in the hallway please, and don’t drink anything from the bottom cupboard – or, b) you just haven’t been paying attention to anything I’ve said over the last couple of years, and thus probably make poor life choices in general.
To both groups though, I say this: Even faster recharge on your abilities during Radiance. Increased Solar armour. Boosted agility during your Super. Combine it with Flame Shield on your melee and become a grenade-spewing volcano tank. And specifically to group b, I also say, yeah, you probably should go to the doctor about that. Stop taking chances.
As for Hunters, the Young Ahamkara’s Spine gauntlets are a neat little Exotic for Crucible play, particularly if you play a lot of objective modes. They give you an extra charge on your trip mines, and makes the mines themselves last longer, really increasing their value in area defence. And the Titans’ Crest of Alpha Lupi isn’t bad, though a bit limited in scope, given that it pretty much just speeds up revives (both incoming and outgoing) , making tough co-op encounters a tad more lenient.
But hark, what’s that sound on the horizon? That distinct, chirruping ring, that cuts through the skull like a glass razorblade? Why, it’s the mating call of the rarely-seen Exotic gun. Blessed be, for Xur is actually selling one this week. Actually, it’s about the third week in a row he’s done that now. What are you doing, man? Are you (more) drunk (than usual)? Anyway, this time it’s Suros Regime, the Auto Rifle that used to stalk the Crucible like a big, poorly balanced balrog, and which – while now nerfed for the good of mankind – is still actually pretty nifty despite no longer being so dominant. It balances good stability, power and (tweakable) range, does half a clip of bonus damage, and occasionally recharges your health. As Auto Rifles go, it is an Auto Rifle that is not a bad one.
As ever, Xur will be in the Tower until 10am UK / 2am PT on Sunday, at which point he’ll vanish for the week. So make sure you stock up while you can.
